Cozy Parisian Home Organized Through Bookshelves

Very suggestively named by some “the bookshelf house“, this modern home is located in Paris, France and was completed in 2016 by Andrea Mosca Creative Studio, a practice that believes in the collective nature of everything architecture and interior design related.

The staircase bookshelves are a key feature for the overall design of the space, being the main focal point

The staircase that connects the two floors of the house is the main feature of the interior design. The staircase itself is well hidden behind a bookshelf system with open cubbies that form a wall along the stairs.

To maximize the space even more and to make it look larger, the living room features a large mirror

The mirrored dividers create a visual distinction between the lounge space, kitchen and dining area

The lower level is the social area which contains the living room, kitchen and dining space. Sliding glass doors connect it directly to the outdoors and bring in natural light and fresh colors. The interior decor here is kept simple and with a focus on fluid forms that complement each other.

The kitchen is meant to be minimalist, modern and to look inviting, hence the simple colors and materials

The combination of white and wood is exploited throughout the house but is most charming in the kitchen

A lot of wood was employed throughout the social spaces. The designers exposed the material’s natural beauty and charm and allowed it to become the star by pairing it with a white background. The kitchen showcases this combination in a really beautiful way.

The dining area is a really cozy space, nicely framed by the kitchen island and the bookshelf and mirror dividers

The whole floor plan is not particularly large but in spite of that it has a very bright, open and spacious feel. That’s due to the color palette and the array of clever design features such as the mirrors, the open shelves, the white counters and the glass doors and skylights that bring in light.

Tiered bookshelves are also employed upstairs to offer privacy to certain spaces

All this openness is wonderfully complemented and balanced out by a coziness that defines the entire home. In addition, each space feels intimate and comfortable. This is something that the designers managed to do by using a variety of space dividing solutions such as mirrors, bookcases or furniture such as the kitchen island or the living room sofas.

The bedrooms are more colorful, each featuring a cheerful and vibrant accent nuance

If the social area was characterized by a palette of warm colors and neutrals, the upper level spaces are a big more vividly colored, featuring large storage units in bright shades of pink and blue.
