Modern Yet Rustic Hotel Reflects Natural Features of the Dolomites
The historic Majestic Mountain Charme, located in the pedestrian center of renowned Italian ski resort Madonna di Campiglio, now features a magnificent renovated interior. Known for high-quality hospitality and elegance for more than 50 years, the hotel got its new stylish, facelift from Italian architects CaberlonCaroppi.
The design team’s goal was to create a superior 4-star hotel that has a luxurious and modern style while maintaining the property’s charm and historical image. Surrounded by the Adamello Brenta Nature Park, the Brenta Dolomites mountain range, a glacier, lakes and trails, the Majestic Mountain Charme is convenient to the lifts that bring visitors up the slopes to ski areas. It is located in Italy’s Trentino Alto Adige, and is an ideal place for nature lovers and fans of snow.
The guest rooms have been completely renovated in a style that is at the same time comfortable, refined and modern. A neutral palette is accented by outdoor motifs that mesh well with the history and the tradition of the hotel. Also, the exciting landscape and Dolomite mountains that surround the city are echoed in the natural and easy interiors. A very functional layout is highlighted by unique and exclusive furnishings that were created with a contemporary mountain flair.
The aim of the designers was to create spacious and functional rooms that offer guests a flexible environment that fits their many needs. The interiors have been carefully planned to express elegance and the simplicity of lines. The did this through a modern reinterpretation of a classic mountain setting combined with an unusual and innovative use iconic elements associated with the Dolomite mountains. All these features come together in guestrooms that convey a spirit of surprise and discovery.
Throughout the room, the designer used lighting that is very stylish and perhaps a bit unexpected for a hotel room. Instead of the typical bedside lamps or ceiling lights,
Each room incorporates well-equipped wardrobes and encompasses smaller ad-hoc living spaces. These are flexible enough to be additional sleeping spaces when necessary and still offer a level of privacy and comfort. Artfully hidden doors can create wider spaces and provide even more flexibility for use of the space. The element of surprise in the layout presents itself in the way that spaces unfold, creating smart functionality: retractable hooks, folding-sliding partitions and innovative elements are just some of the versatile features that guest will encounter in the rooms. The velvet headboard is a dominant element in the space, thanks to the hefty, imposing wooden frame that surrounds it.
A charming detail in the space is the mascot of Madonna di Campiglio — a bear — which is discreetly incorporated in the design. The unexpected motif is found in the wardrobe as well as silk-screened on the backlit glass plate that supports the platform of the bed. Surrounded by stars and snowflakes, the bear highlights the glass, which is a very artful and unexpected design detail.
Adding to the coziness of the space is an in-wall fireplace that sits just below the large-screen television across from the bed. This is a great example of how to combine the technological features that guests demand with the luxurious elements that make hotel stay more than good.
Most of the upholstery, headboards, chairs and curtains were designed specifically for the hotel. The cabinets are clad in a dapper brown leather that is accented with hand-stitched details along with custom leather handles. In addition to all the other stylish lighting fixtures, the town’s mascot makes an appearance as a custom-designed iron bear head element over the sconces.
Walls and floors were rendered in modular oak planks that recall the mountain environment and because they were quick and easy to install. The vibe of Alpine elegance is also reflected gray and beige decor elements that keep the feeling soft and relaxing. The space gets its modern edge from the use of sheet metal elements, upgrading the otherwise rustic surroundings.
The main space of the room is very versatile, with its own television and a pull-out table that can serve as a place for having snacks, working or just sitting and reading. The bench style sofa is also super useful. Small details like the graphic accessories and fun deer-print pillows add to the comfortable feeling of the room.
Sliding panels divide and close off the spaces, adding to privacy. Moreover, the living space is flooded with natural light from the French doors that open to the outdoors.
Another style of guestroom has a more traditional bed that features a skirted bed instead of the platform and lighted glass panel. Dramatic floor to ceiling drapes add to the drama that is created by the large bed headboard, clearly the dominant feature in the room.
This style of room also features large, stylish hanging lamps that illuminate the black bedside tables that serve as nightstands. Along with the wall lights and ceiling strip, there is plenty of illumination and the tabletop is freed up for books and other bedside necessities. The recesses and shelves in the room are lined with black sheet metal, which creates a decidedly modern effect, especially when highlighted by the LEDs that are incorporated in each area.
Spacious stone bathrooms feature a modern and somewhat minimalist style, highlighted by the double light mirror. Besides being a dominant design element, it floods the space with light, making the task of getting ready extra easy. The vanity top, also made of stone and specifically designed by the studio, is another example of how the main concept of the space is conveyed through all the details, including the very deliberate choice of materials.
The same chic gray stone is used in the spacious shower. Unlike many hotel showers, which are cramped basic, this one also features a rainfall showerhead along with a hand-held attachment. Recessed lighting is incorporated in the ceiling and a built-in cubby area provides a place for shower necessities.
Even the hallways of the hotel have been upgraded to feature elements that provide a hint of what’s to come when you open the door to a guest room. The same tone of wood is used and the black and white plaid carpeting lends a polished air to the hall that ties in with the black accent walls. At the end of the hall, a wall of illuminated stars adds far more flair and interest than any stock wall art ever could. The unique style of displaying the room number and plenty of light really distinguish the area — no dark halls here!
Overall, the renovations have transformed the rooms into modern yet cozy spaces that reflect the natural surroundings of the hotel — and town — in a very stylish way.
