Easy-to-use Glue Bottles For Your Woodworking Projects

Are those Elmer’s glue bottles starting to look a little…icky? Do you love the new Gorilla Glue you bought, but can’t stand using the tip it comes with? If you answered yes to either of these questions, you may want to consider investing in a quality glue bottle—or even a full glue bottle kit!

 Glue Bottles

Today, you can find any number of potential bottles for storing and dispensing your glue. From designated glue bottles that are designed with DIYers and woodworkers in mind, to condiment bottles that can serve double-duty as glue dispensers, the list is endless.

DIY Projects Using Wood Glue

Before looking at our top glue bottle picks, you can skim over these simple DIY projects that use wood glue to get your creative streak started—or to keep it that way for the remainder of winter. Most of these projects are relatively simple, though a couple of them may require some more advanced tools. Let’s take a look.

Wooden Magazine Files

FastCap Highbot FC 2182 Woodworking

Is your living room, office, or study starting to look absolutely cluttered with books or magazines? Then what you need is a quality magazine file to hold it all in place and keep your space looking organized. The good news is that you can make some yourself with minimal hassles! This project is designed to create nine files.

You’ll need:

  • 4’ X 4’ half-sheet of plywood, ¼” thick
  • 1 X 4 timber length, 8’ long
  • PVA glue
  • Painter’s tape
  • Clamps
  • Wood finish

The first step is to prepare your wood cuts using the 4 X 4 and 1 X 4.

Cut the wood from the 4 X 4 into three 10” wide pieces and three 4” wide pieces (you will have some spare wood leftover). Now:

  • Use the 4” strips to cut nine 6 ¼” long pieces (which will serve as the short front side) and nine 12” long pieces (which will serve as the long back side).
  • Use the 1 X 4 to cut nine 10” long pieces.

You will also need to cut the sides of the file using a 30-degree angle.

Now, glue and nail the sides to the bottom piece (a 10” piece cut from 1 X 4). Now nail a front piece to the bottom board and glue it along the sides, and secure with painter’s tape. You can also use clamps to hold the wood pieces together, if you prefer. Finally, you’ll attach the back piece with nails and glue.

Once it’s dry and well set, you can add your choice of finish.

Wood Modern Mountain Art

FastCap Highbot FC 2182 Woodworking

Looking for a simpler DIY project to spruce up your living space or office? Then you should try your hand at this modern mountain art decoration.

You’ll need:

  • Wood scraps
  • Saw
  • Eye protection
  • Sandpaper
  • Glue
  • Stain
  • Rag
  • Sealer or Paint

To start, you will need to cut the scraps into different lengths. Each cut should have one straight side and one side cut at a 45-degree angle.

Next, you should sand the edges and corners of each piece. If desired, you can also add stain or a paint to them.

Once the stain or paint has dried and set in, you can start arranging the pieces in mountain shapes, gluing just two pieces together at a time. Do this until all of the pieces are included in the mountain decoration.

There you have it! That wasn’t too hard, was it?

Pallet Christmas Tree

FastCap Highbot FC 2182 Woodworking

Already planning for Christmas next year? Once all of the lockdowns, quarantines, and general panic have dissolved, we’re sure you’ll enjoy having family and friends over to celebrate! Why not impress them with a handmade pallet Christmas tree hanging on your wall? This makes for a great solo project, or a fun arts & crafts activity to do with the kids.

Materials you’ll need:

  • Wood pallet wood board
  • Patterned paper (preferably holiday-themed)
  • Hot glue gun
  • Tan milk paint

The first thing you’ll do is paint the wood board (if desired). While it dries, you can start getting the Christmas tree template ready.

To make the template, you will need to cut out paper squares in the following lengths: 2”, 2.5”, 3”, 3.5”, 4”. Fold these squares diagonally in half, cut a diagonal line just above the triangles’ mid-point, unfold the pieces, and cut them where the diagonal fold line is.

Once the paint has completely dried, you can start setting up the pieces (labeled 1-5) on the board. Use this template to cut more pieces—there should be six pieces cut from the smallest shape and eight cut from each of the other shape sizes.

Arrange the pieces on the board, starting with the bottom of the tree and working from the center of the board outward. Put a dot of glue on one triangle’s center and press it down. Form the Christmas tree layers by sliding another piece partially underneath the first one, and glue it down in a similar fashion. Continue this process for each layer, from bottom to top.

DIY Hexagonal Tray

FastCap Highbot FC 2182 Woodworking

Nothing can take away from a room’s appeal like clutter. To give your home or office space a more organized or professional look, you can invest in a handy tray—or create one yourself for a more personable look. We recommend this DIY hexagonal tray for its easy-to-construct qualities and, of course, its charm!

Materials you’ll need:

  • Large square of plywood
  • Long plywood piece, cut to 1 X 1”
  • Protractor
  • Straight edge
  • Pencil
  • Spray paint
  • Saw
  • Wood glue
  • Hammer and nails
  • Sandpaper

The first thing you’ll need to do is draw the hexagon shape on the large plywood square. Keep in mind that the shape must have all interior angles at 120 degrees and have six equal sides. Now use the long plywood piece to cut out six equally-sized pieces to serve as the tray’s sides.

Next, cut out the hexagon shape which will serve as the base. It’s recommended to use a radial arm saw for this.

Sand the edges of the hexagon shape and the sides.

Now glue and nail each side to the base, and let rest until it’s dry and well set.

Finally, you can opt to spray paint your new tray—what better way to add an extra flair of personality?
