Modern House With Glass Doors And A Display Garage
The Smilgu House is a contemporary residence located in Vilnius, Lithuania. It sits on a small plot surrounded by a forest. It was designed by Plazma Architecture Studio and it has a really cool and unusual feature: a glass garage that puts the car inside on display. The glass garage door comes in the continuation of a glazed ground floor section which extends into a double-height space at the center and then continues into the opposite direction on the upper floor. The exterior of the house is covered in vertical timber stripes which reference the long trunks of the trees all around the site.
The secluded nature of the site gives the house lots of privacy and separates it from all neighboring properties. That translates into an open design with lots of large windows and a strong connection to the immediate surrounding landscape. The wood cladding helps the house blend in with the wooded surroundings and by comparison, the interior is very bright and airy. At the center, there’s a large double-height living area with a view of the rear garden. There’s also a roof terrace above the kitchen and a large deck that serves as an extension for the dining area.
