Get ready for winter. A few items you should now have in your home

Winter is on its way and when it’s here you can’t really ignore it. So you’d better get your home ready for the new cold season. There are lots of things to do in order to be completely prepared but we’re going to start with the beginning. You never know when the first snow will come so you should be prepared. Consider getting all the tools you need out of the garage or to purchase new one if needed. You should have at least a snow shovel and some rock salt. Place them somewhere handy like near the entrance or in the garage somewhere where you can easily find them. And now that the outdoor area is taken care of, you can focus on the interior of your home.

Start with the entrance and get rid of the summer welcome mat. Instead get a tougher one that is good for getting rid of all the snow and sand. You don’t want those inside your home. The scraper doormat should be placed outside. You can also have a different welcome mat inside.

Even though you get rid of most of the snow and sand outside, they’re not completely gone so you better leave the rest at the entrance. Then have some hooks for all the cold wet coats. It would be nice to have a warming cabinet but these hooks will do.

Even though I might seem like your home is perfectly insulated, wait till winter comes with full force. Don’t be fooled by how friendly the weather is now. Get your home ready for storms and lots of snow. If you have storm windows now it would be a good time to switch them with the other ones. Get some draft stoppers and make sure the windows are sealed and safe. Have your furnace serviced and get some firewood. It’s going to be wonderful to be prepared when the winter comes and to be able to relax in your home, put some wood in the fireplace and watch the snow fall.
