When we presented the guide to some of the most exuberant and spectacular Christmas markets found in Europe, (The most extraordinary European Christmas markets – the most cheerful and festive places this season), we insisted more on Germany simply because it has some of the most beautiful markets in the whole world. Germany is also home to some of the biggest and oldest markets, the Dresden Christmas market, for example, dating back to 1434.
Here in Germany you can find not just one but lots of spectacular Christmas markets in each of the main cities. In all of them you can find unique wood sculpted figurines and toys, wonderful gifts, delicious treats and beautiful landmarks that got transformed and received the spirit of Christmas. Enjoy the atmosphere and ride the carousels, admire the amazing Christmas lights and the beautifully decorated Christmas trees.
The hundreds of stalls are expecting you and they have lots of goodies for you to choose from. Besides those, there are plenty more landmarks and seasonal decorations to admire. For example, the great market from Dresden also houses the world’s tallest Christmas pyramid and the world’s biggest nut cracker. But these are just a few examples of what to expect when visiting Germany’s winter wonderland.
There are lots of attractions for everyone to enjoy. The children and those that want to have a fun time there are carousels, illuminated merry-go-rounds, Ferris wheels or skating rinks as well as beautiful sculptures representing Santa, Santa’s sleigh or funfairs for everyone to enjoy. Whether it’s in Dresden, Frankfurt, Cologne, Osnabrueck or Berlin, you can be sure you’ll always have a good time while in Germany this time of the year. You just have to be ready to get into the Christmas spirit and to make sure you have plenty of energy because once you enter a market you’ll immediately me mesmerized and you’ll probably want to stay there forever.
