Beautiful Gambrel Roof Ski Cabin Built With Reclaimed Barn Wood

A ski cabin located in Sugar Bowl, California encompasses everything one would expect from a cozy and rustic vacation home. It’s the gambrel barn house a lot of us think of as their dream home away from home. The cabin was built by Kelly and Abramson Architecture and its interior design is the work of studio Sally Ward.

The palette of materials used throughout the project includes an abundance of reclaimed barn wood which was used for the exterior siding of the house, the flooring, railings and exposed beams, in combination with a roof made of corrugated galvanized metal. These choices give the cabin a rustic and welcoming appearance.

The interior design reveals a series of open and functional yet friendly spaces and a warm and inviting ambiance throughout the cabin. There’s a large living room with a big fireplace and comfy sofas, a spacious kitchen with a practical layout and a big farmhouse sink and six bedrooms, one of which is a loft space and two being kids’ rooms with bunk beds. There’s also a large outdoor deck with a fire pit and a water tank that’s actually a hot tub. There are industrial light fixtures throughout and massive wooden beams, some of which are actually decorative and designed to maintain a cohesive look and a cozy and rustic ambiance in all the different areas of the cabin.
