How To Furnish And Decorate a Boy’s Room
It’s difficult to decide whether a particular type of decor is better suited for boys or for girls. At the end of the day, it’s all mostly just based on cliches but, even so, there’s plenty of inspiration to be found in all the so-called boys’ room designs and ideas you can find online. That being said, we have our own suggestions of how such a space could look like. Some of the design ideas are actually quite versatile so you could easily adapt them to suit other types of environments as well.
Colors and furniture
Some colors such as green, yellow or even purple are actually quite neutral in the sense that they could suit a boy’s room just as well as they would a girl’s room. To make the decor look just a bit more masculine you can add some grey. Check out this lovely green and grey combo and how well the two colors complement each other. The interior design is not boring but not too busy either. It’s just right.
Other colors such as red or orange can look just as cool when paired with neutrals like grey, white or black. The combo is even better when there’s also a theme so that the accent color actually makes sense.
A specific piece of furniture that you could add to a boy’s room to sort of mix cuteness with practically is this adorable cork stool called Bob. It’s incredibly versatile and also plenty comfortable. Those two little holes look like eyes and that makes the stool like an adorable little creature, one that you can sit on.
Themed decors
Themed bedrooms are always an option too. There are some pretty cool themes and ideas you can use. For example, how about a pirate-themed room? The bed could look like a ship and you can add custom matching bedding and all sorts of other cool things.
Planes can be a good source of inspiration as well. There are some great furniture collections that are inspired exactly by that. This is one of them. The themed rug is a nice touch too and so is the mural.
You don’t have to be a kid to be a Spider-man fan. Still, a Spider-man-themed bed makes more sense in a boy’s room than in an adult’s home. There are also matching cabinets and other things to add to the space plus you might also be able to find themed wallpaper.
An interior design theme doesn’t necessarily have to be very specific. Something more general such a nautical-themed decor can look super cool too. Once again, the bed can be shaped like a ship and you can add all sorts of cool details to really make it work.
This airplane-themed bed is not just fun but also very well designed, with all sorts of practical features such as built-in nightstands that look wile plane wings, built-in lighting and a storage compartment for luggage above the headboard.
Simple and stylish
If you’re not really a fan of themed room decors and you’d rather prefer something simple and more neutral, there are plenty of boys’ room design ideas in this category too. For example, try a simple and compact design with sliding bed frames, built-in cabinets and an L-shaped desk. It’s a perfect combo for a shared bedroom.
Bunk beds are always cool and fun and practical and there are all sorts of interesting variations you can try so pick a type that suits the layout of the room and go with it.
Another option is to keep the main furniture pieces simple and neutral and to make the space look funky and interesting through accent pieces such as a colorful desk chair, an eye-catching wall shelf, etc.
Apart from all the usual things any bedroom includes such as the bed and the closet, in boys’ rooms you can also expect to almost always find a desk. A cool idea would be to have a compact, expandable desk which can be hidden when not used.
