Fresh New Wallpaper Designs are Geometric, Botanical and Beautiful

They’re immediately recognizable to fans of home decor and remodeling television shows: Drew and Jonathan Scott, better known as the Property Brothers. Naturally, the pair eventually created their own collection of curated designs for Scott Living, a furniture and decor brand that aims to help a luxurious home be accessible to all. Available in physical stores as well as a range of on-line retailers, the offerings run the gamut from furniture to accessories and rugs. Now, Scott living has added a line of wallpaper, which is no surprise: Modern types of wallpaper have been rapidly gaining in popularity in recent years.

According to the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, wallpaper has seen a number of resurrections in popularity since it originated in the 16th century. The earliest versions were used inside cupboards and smaller rooms in merchants’ houses but by the beginning of the 20th century, you could find it lining the walls of all kinds of houses, from the poorest to the most opulent. Of course “it was this very popularity that led to wallpaper being regarded as the poor relation of the decorative arts,” writes the V&A. The latest renaissance of wallpaper has brought about a more varied and sophisticated range of options than was available in the 1980s, the last time it was popular.

Collaborating with the A Street Prints, Scott Living has developed a collection of 15 different elevated but approachable designs, ranging from industrial and modern to botanicals and refined geometric patterns. The colors included span a rich and earthy color spectrum, ideal for today’s popular home color palettes.

“On our shows, the homeowners invite us into their homes, tell us how they want to feel in their home and then we go out and try to make it happen. That’s what we’re going for here. You’re not going to see a pattern and go ‘oh, that’s a Scott Living pattern.’ You’re going to see a Scott Living pattern and say ‘that would look great in our home,'” says Jonathan Scott. This Del Mar botanical design in the bathroom above is a great example because it fuses contemporary style with a pattern that has a subtle tropical feel.

This bold, modern paper is the Granada Geometric Wallpaper rendered in charcoal that has a distressed look. The central shapes combine with silver lines for an out-of-the-ordinary geometric design. The colors and the design give it an edgy yet sophisticated yet vibe. Below is another geometric design, but this one has a more subtle pattern.  The Ballard Indigo Geometric Wallpaper features a rich matte blue backdrop that really highlights the slim silver lines, creating a classy look for virtually any room. Like the other patterns, it is available in other colors, some of which are much lighter.

The look of this Karson Blue Swirling Geometric design harkens back to hand-painted designs. The intricate lines that swirl in conjoined arcs have subtly-raised inks, giving them a custom-painted feel.  The abstract geometric design and its waves have a soothing, serene appeal, especially in this particular calming blue color. While it’s also available in gray and a pale teal, this classic blue colorway is super on-trend.

Another style that features intricate lines and a bit of gently arc is this Westport Coffee Geometric design. It’s an Aztec-inspired print featuring both bold and fine lines. The wallpaper has a contemporary look that is quite versatile. Here it’s shown combined with a variety of natural materials and wood colors.

A bit more subtle but still with a dimensional look, the Merritt Green Geometric design features raised inks. This lends it a hand-painted or hand-stamped look, with the lines having a more irregular nature. The organic green colorway shown here adds a fresh zing to the space. For an even more subtle style, the Barnaby Light Blue Faux Grasscloth shown below adds the texture and look of a woven grasscloth without the expense and extra care needed. The textured wallpaper adds dimension and interest to any wall, without a defined motif or geometric pattern.

At a distance, this design looks like a simple chevron pattern, but the Aspen Aqua Chevron is actually more complex. Done in two tones of aqua, the design is actually a multitude of small lines that form the large chevrons as well as the thinner strips between each larger section. Its abstract flair gives the print a contemporary edge and the textured details have a shimmer that really makes it stand out.

Below, the Shea Sky Blue Distressed Geometric is a chic design that features an abstract silver pattern. Another wallpaper style with metallic flair, light blue and turquoise background highlight the sheen. Of course, it’s available in multiple color options.

This particular design is indeed a genuine grasscloth wallpaper. The Darlana Grasscloth, shown here in the green option, features a large botanical leaf print that has a tropical flair. The organic nature of the motif gives it an organic feeling and resembles something of a watercolor painting.  The natural hues of beige and green give it a chic, natural look.

Another pattern with a botanical look is the Juno wallpaper, here in Dark Grey Ogee. Described as “Bohemian mixed with Scandinavian flair” the curving ogees surround a stylized leaf front. The color choices are calming and the overall look is quite versatile.

Unlike any of the other patterns, the Balboa Olive Botanical design has a flocked leaf pattern on top of a silver background. It has a soft texture and light olive color that’s somehow bold yet subtle at the same time. Three other color options are pale and gentle, while an indigo colorway heightens the drama of the design.

For those who favor smaller prints, the Thea Floral Trail is an excellent option that has a very soothing vibe. The pattern features a faux linen background that is covered with trailing vines of leaves in grey, taupe, and muted yellow. All three colorways, including this light grey option, are versatile and refreshing.
