While it can be very exciting and wonderful to work on a long-term project and to see a house grow gradually over several months, sometimes such an approach is simply impractical and unfitting. There are situations when all you need is something temporary or when there’s not enough time to build something from scratch. Other times it’s just not worth it. Whatever the case may be, there is one unit designed particularly to solve such problems. It’s called M.A.D.I.
M.A.D.I. is a modular living unit which can be installed in only 6 hours and by a team of only three people. It’s designed to use an unfolding system which allows it to be easily transported and then installed or relocated with ease. This makes it a very practical option in the context of temporary accommodations for festivals or fairs but also also in case of natural disasters. It’s also an option to consider if you require a temporary extension for an existing house. The unit is earthquake-resistant.
Whether you choose to use it as a temporary living unit for sports events, fair, as a pop-up first-aid center, as a quick living solution in case of a natural disaster or simply as a leisure cabin, M.A.D.I. offers a whole range of benefits including quick assembly time of only 6 hours, zero environmental impact and the option to be easily folded and transported to another location or stored when no longer needed. In addition, the unit can be placed directly on the ground (on a level site) which means there’s no need for a foundation.
There are five different sizes to choose from. The smallest is a single 27 square meter module, followed by a double module measuring 56 square meters, another double version of 46 square meters and two triple units measuring 70 and respectively 84 square meters. They all come with electrical, plumbing and heating and cooling systems. The standard version is energy class B with the option to boost it to a class A or even A++ upon request, in which case the unit becomes self-sustainable and suitable for off-grid areas.
All M.A.D.I. units regardless of their size or energy class feature a classic A-frame design with an open space ground level where the living, dining and cooking areas are situated and a smaller cozy loft area which houses the sleeping spaces. The interior design is sleek and modern and can be customized in a variety of ways. The use of warm wood makes it really welcoming if a cabin-like feel is desired but of course a more minimalist and white decor can be chosen for a more open and airy ambiance.
