Exotic-looking building turned into a residence in Lo Cañas,Chile

This exotic-looking building is actually a lovely family residence. It’s called the Lo Cañas House and it’s located in Lo Cañas, La Florida, Santiago, Chile from where it also gets its name. The residence has been designed by Francisco Abarca and Camilo Palma in 2009. It was then built in 2009-2010 on a 2.500 square meter area.

The actual house sits on a 120 square meter area plus the 80 square meters occupied by the terrace. It’s mostly made of wood and steel, a strange combination of materials. Nevertheless, the result is very beautiful and harmonious. This is a very inviting family home surrounded by fruit trees of various species and featuring a creative design. On the north side of the plot there’s the terrace, on the west it’s the corridor while the inner courtyard serves as an intermediate space providing both natural light, fresh vies and a great space for relaxation.

The team working at this project tried to preserve most of the environment and to save as many trees as possible. The deck has been built between two trees and the inner courtyard includes a lovely walnut that has been preserved. Most of the house has been built using wood. The structure is made of pine. Of course, steel has also been used when needed to keep everything together and to provide stability and strength.{found on archdaily}
