Milan Loft Innovates Through Harmonious Eclecticism
Eclectic designs are unpredictable by nature. This is a style which takes its uniqueness from the way in which other more well-defined styles interact and work together. Each such project is unique and different. Loft Minacciolo takes eclecticism to a new level with its refined and stylish interior design.
The loft was designed by Silvio Stefani, a studio specialized in interior design with a variate palette of projects including both new constructions and restorations for hotels, restaurants and private residences. The studio also designs stylish furniture and this particular project reflects that.
The apartment is located in Milan, Italy and was renovated in 2013. As mentioned, the new design is an eclectic one. It’s a space where modern, industrial and traditional elements work together, where harmony is established using contrasting details.
The palette of materials used in the project is simple and includes metal, concrete, wood and glass. The loft has an open floor plan which integrates the kitchen, dining area and the living space. The polished concrete floor features imperfections intentionally left exposed.
Combined with the exposed beams and high ceiling, the concrete floor sets an industrial vibe. In addition, the color palette based mostly on gray emphasizes this style. All the black metal featured used throughout the apartment are combined with wood elements which add warmth to the space.
This particular combination is one of the main reasons why the space feels so inviting and comfortable despite the rough textures and cold color tones. The spaces inside the loft are all open and dynamic. This allows them to look bright and airy.
In addition, the open spaces also allow a multitude of different layouts to be possible. The kitchen is defined by an island which can be used as a multipurpose feature, for cooking, prepping or even as a bar.
The dining area is not immediately adjacent to the kitchen like in most cases. There’s quite a bit of space between them. This are is simple, elegant, sleek and infused with character. The lighting fixtures are the most eye-catching elements, featuring shades made of repurposed pots.
A beautiful feature is the small indoor garden area. It’s a fresh space which adds color and beauty to the entire apartment.
A divider wall separates the social areas from a more intimate lounge space, also furnished with a table and a set of chairs. The wall provided the designers with an opportunity to also introduce an elegant pattern into the décor.
The sitting area is defined by a textured area rug. A brown leather sofa adds a touch of traditional charm to the space while the wall bookcase blends the style with an industrial influence.
Various other references to the traditional style are strategically integrated into the whole apartment interior. They are mixed with contemporary elements and industrial details. The result is an interior design that’s practical, simple, sculptural but also theatrical, minimal and refined. The black metal elements add a timeless touch to the design, being in perfect synthesis with the natural and modern elements.
