How To Build Your Dream Bed With No Effort And Little Money

Your bed is definitely one of the most significant and most used pieces of furniture. Here you spend at least one third of your life, relaxing, sleeping, and dreaming. It’s the first and the last thing you use at the beginning and the end of each day. In other words, it’s very important for you to have access to all the comfort you need, and this piece of furniture has a great impact on your wellbeing. What you don’t know is that you can build your own dream bed with little money and a bit of imagination. Are you ready to try this? It`s a challenge!

You live in a loft and you’re lucky enough to have all sort of tight spaces under your ceiling? We bet you thought about a way to use those spaces.  Have you ever considered sleeping up there? First make sure it`s a stable place and then add a mattress, a sheet, a blanket and some comfy pillows and enjoy your day.  Don`t forget about the ladder!

2. Hammock bed.

In my opinion, a hammock bed is everybody’s dream. Comfortable and very easy to build, this bed will easily become the main attraction of the house.

First is first: take a look at the room and think about where you could hang it. You will need 4 support hooks (10 to 12 feet distance between) and you have to find 2 studs or 2 beams that will hold the hammock bed (also 10 to 12 feet apart).  Make sure the hammock won’t touch the ground (measure 5 to 6 feet off the ground). After this, all you have to do is to drill some holes into each stud or beam and fix the hooks, and then hang the hammock. Good luck!

3. Sunken bed.

Sleeping in a sunken bed is an experience worth trying. A custom made hole in the floor and a mattress in it….this are pretty much everything you need (and, of course, a sheet, blankets and pillows). If you are the kind of person who likes to sit on the floor, you will be more than happy to have this kind of bed.

4. Pallet bed.

Easy to assemble, to move and to customize, pallet beds are a new trend in design furniture and you won’t have to spend a fortune for them. Depending on how you decide to fix the pallets, you can also create perfect storage spaces for books and magazines. Here is a list with the materials you need: 4 x identical pallets, 4 x 3” bolts with washers and nuts, 8 x 4” hurricane straps, screws, paint. For a better look you can also use a 4 x 8` sheet of hardboard and fix it with adhesive. You can find full tutorial here.

Create a one-of-a-kind bedroom by adding a metal pipe bed built by you. Yes, you will be able to do this and no, it’s not as hard as you imagine. Here are some instructions and detailed pictures.

6. Cinder block bed.

You urgently need another platform for your bed, but you don’t have enough money to afford a new one? Well, if you happen to have some cinder blocks somewhere around your house, your problem is already solved. Create a minimalist theme room by using them and a wood plate to support your mattress. It’s probably not very comfortable, but it’s only for a while.

7. Wood platform with storage.

Storage spaces are very useful, especially if you live in a small apartment. Some drawers under the bed would be very useful for storing the sheets and blankets. It’s true, it’s a little complicated to build this kind of wood platform, but it’s not impossible. You can find the full tutorial here.

8. Floating bed.

9. Hanging bed.

This is probably one of the easiest beds to build. You will need ropes or chains, a strong ceiling, a wood plate, a mattress, pillows…and I think it’s enough. Take into account what you’ve already read about the hammock bed!{found on flickr}.

10. Books bed.

Yes, you read that right! Actually this is something new for us too. A bed out of books is like sleeping on your knowledge and I must say it’s not a bad idea! It makes me wonder how come I never thought about that.

11. A simple mattress.

Sometimes a mattress is everything you need after a difficult day at work. After all, a bed is comfortable mainly because of the mattress. Therefore, you don’t necessarily need a bed frame, but a room with a suitable design for this simple idea. Industrial design seems to be one of the great options. Don’t forget, your health depends on the type of mattress you use, so choose carefully or talk with a specialist.
