Not long ago interior design studio Frederick Tang Architecture was approached by a young family who wanted to give their new home a unique look. The project was ambitious but also very exciting. The end goal was to combine and renovate two units on the 6th floor of a New York building and to turn them into a modern family home. The style that the clients had in mind was a combination of different influences: mid-century, art deco, retro and of course modern. The 3,400 square feet of space (315 square meters) were more than enough to make their dreams come true.
The apartment’s outdated, dark and divided layout and decor were quickly transformed. A large common area was created by combining several spaces into one. The sitting room, kitchen and dining area became one and a music room and a study were also added, with the possibility to have them closed off whenever needed. Some of the interior walls had to be removed in order to make that happen. Also, lots of custom elements were added throughout the apartment.
The master bedroom features a stylish tufted headboard and the dressing room was specifically designed to reflect the owner’s predilection for art deco elegance and glamour. The daughter’s bedroom has a subtle vintage vibe, featuring a quirky and playful palette of colors and patterns. The family’s two dogs were not neglected either as one of the bathrooms also doubles as a pet spa.
