DIY Sunglasses Holder

With summer, comes all those wonderful activities like going to beach, going site seeing, going on vacation or just driving to your favorite restaurant. No matter the occasion the sun is going to be shining and your eyes are going to need protection!

Now I may wear glasses, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have sunglasses. Especially, in the summer, I like wearing my sunglasses any chance I get. However, finding those sunglasses is another story. So today I’m going to show you how to make a super cute sunglasses holder, which will help you keep track of all your favorite sunglasses!

DIY Sunglasses Holder

This sunglasses holder is really easy to make and could be made over the weekend. With that being said, I design my sunglasses holder to hold three pairs of sunglasses, however, you could design yours to hold more or less. Also, the dowel rods that you use in this project may need to be cut longer than the length in the supply description, if your sunglasses are bigger. Most of the sunglasses I have are medium size, so a 1 ½ inch dowel rod worked perfectly.

Step 1: Paint your wooden slabs, dowel rods, and dowel rod caps. Once everything has been painted, set it aside to dry.

Step 2: Take your wooden slab and lay it on top of your scrapbooking paper. Then trace around the slab and cut out your piece of paper.

You will want to repeat this step two more times.

Step 3: Grab your pieces of scrapbooking paper and run it through your Xyron Creative Lite Station.  Once your paper has been run through the machine, simply rub the top of the Xyron Sticker paper and peel off the backing. Then add it to your wooden slab.

DIY Sunglasses Holder - awl and poke holes

Step 4: Take your awl and poke holes at the top and bottom of two of your wooden slabs. Then with the third slab, only poke holes at the top.

Now grab your jump rings and attach a ring through each hole. Then grab your chain and measure out a 2-inch piece. You will want to repeat this measuring process 3 more times, so you will have 4 pieces of chain in all.

Once you have your chain, open up each jump ring, slide your chain on and then close the jump ring.

Finally, you will want to measure out a longer piece of chain that is about 8 inches. Attach this chain to the top of your wood slab in the same manner as before. By doing this, you have now created a way in which to hang your sunglasses holder.

Step 5: Grab your hot glue gun and glue your dowel rods in the middle of each wooden slab. Then apply some more hot glue to the top of your dowel rods and slide on the dowel caps.

Once your dowel rods and caps have been glued on, then you are done!

How cute is that!

I think this sunglasses holder would be perfect right next to a mirror, so you could grab your favorite pair of sunglasses when you’re running out the door. Also, this holder would be good to use for those sunglasses that you may not wear anymore, but still don’t have the heart to part with.

Are you in need of a sunglasses holder? If so, what color/style would you make yours in?
