Signs, like a lot of other decorations, are often underrated. A nice sign however can really cheer someone up and can make your home look and feel more inviting. It can also be a decoration that you use to personalize a space and to really make it your own. There are plenty of lovely home quotes to choose from if you ever want to build some signs yourself. Using reclaimed pallet wood to make a sign makes perfect sense if you want something with a farmhouse or rustic vibe. The project starts with a wood pallet which you’ll have to take apart. Alternatively, you can use existing boards. Cut a few of the boards to a smaller size and build a sign out of them according to the instructions on makingmanzanita. Then go ahead and apply the letter stencil and finally attach a repurposed lug wrench in the middle.

There are many different ways in which you can decorate and customize a pallet sign once you’ve built it. One idea which comes from pillarboxblue is to make some string art. You could make something cute for Valentine’s Day like this neon heart sign for example but you can also come up with a different design for other occasions. Something less specific could also work as an everyday decoration.

How about a beautiful sign inspired by the current season? There are some really great ideas for a fall sign that you can check out, like these ones featured on momhomeguide. They involve transfer stickers and wood leaf shapes but you can also potentially use actual leaves or other materials to make something special and unique. Focus on warm and autumn-inspired colors like red and orange.

A really cute idea is to make a pallet sign and decorate with handprints (and foot prints as well). Something like this could make a really nice family-themed decoration and it’s also a nice way to create some memories with your loved ones. Maybe you can get the pets involved too and they can leave their paw prints on the sign to make it even more adorable. Check out inspirationalmomma for more details about this project.

A super easy way to make a summer-themed pallet sign is by just painting blue. You can use a few different shades of blue to paint some wavy stripes and make it look like the ocean. It’s abstract but also very suggestive. We really like how the sign featured on decoart. It really sends summer vibes all around the world. It’s also really easy to make and could look excellent in a beach house.

You can also make some signs for Christmas but what if they were tiny, small enough to we put in the tree as decorations? In that case you wouldn’t be using actual pallet boards but something smaller, like craft sticks or popsicle sticks which you can paint or stain to make it look like pallet wood. It’s an awesome idea that we found on storypiece along with instructions on how to make these adorable little Christmas signs.

A single wooden board can be enough to make a sign. You could cut it and shape it like an arrow to make make a sort of old-school street sign to show the way. Of course, if you’re using this as a decoration in the house it would be more like a sign to show the way to a specific room and for decoration more than anything else. Still, it’s a really nice and interesting way and there are many ways to customize it. Check it out on nur-noch for more details.

Notice that the boards on this pallet sign are positioned vertically and they don’t all have the same exact height. That gives the sign this nice asymmetrical look which adds a bit of depth to its design. The words were added using a stencil and acrylic paint in different colors and then some wood stain was applied to the whole sign in order to give it this weathered look. Check out the instructions on ishouldbemoppingthefloor for more details.

Here’s a pretty similar sign but this time with horizontally-oriented boards. It also has an asymmetric and worn look which really helps to give it character and it has a lovely message on it that makes it perfect for the entryway. You can either use pallet boards for it or various leftover pieces from previous projects if you have any. Get a stencil or make one yourself and pick a set of colors that go well with the surroundings decor and the type of wood that you’re using. For more details check out lollyjane

A pallet sign could look really nice out on the porch, especially when you have it all decorated for autumn or Halloween. Make it simple and give it a rustic look with a message that suits the overall theme. You can get some inspiration from this beautiful fall porch featured on tarynwhiteaker. It has a pallet sign, white pumpkins, cork stalks and lots of other lovely decorations on it.

If you’re making a big pallet sign there’s no need to cut the boards. Just take apart the pallet and remove the rusty nails, then put a few boards side by side and connect them on the back with a few additional strips of wood. Then go ahead and use wood stain or paint to give the sign a nicer and more uniform finish and finally apply the stencil or add the finishing details, depending on what your chosen design is. Isn’t this joy sign absolutely wonderful? It’s actually a set of three small signs all evenly spaced out and displayed on the same wall. They each have a paper mache letter on it and together they spell out joy. The pallet wood boards used for the signs contrasts with the letter but in a very striking manner. Of course, you can use any combination of colors you want when you’re making your own version of this project. Check it out on kristimurphy

A sign doesn’t necessarily need to have text on it. It can be a nice decoration and have a simple and plain design at the same time. If you’re wondering for such a look then the shape of the sign would have to be interesting. Check out these pallet arrows featured on alittlekooky as an example. They’re plain but they’re interesting in other ways and they look great on this display wall.

Speaking of signs with interesting shapes, you could potentially make letter-shaped signs that you can put together to form words or use as lovely monogram decorations around the house. As always, you can use pallet boards for this to save money and to give your signs a rustic or farmhouse-inspired look. There’s a detailed tutorial on krusesworkshop which explains how to make wooden letters from scratch with a focus on a love sign.

On the same note, a cute idea is to make custom signs for specific areas of the house. For instance, this eat sign would be perfect for the kitchen or the dining area. It’s easy to make out of wood and you can use pallet boards to give a naturally aged look. If that’s not possible then you can mimic the look of barn wood by using stain. Check out todayscreativeideas for more details regarding that.

A wooden sign can also be made from several pieces and doesn’t have to be as simple as most of them are. For instance, check out this 3-piece pallet wood sign featured on makingmanzanita. It has a lovely Thanksgiving-themed design but can be customized with various messages based on preference. It’s made from three pieces of wood which are connected together using leather straps. You could also use rope for this.

You can also add lights to a sign to make it stand out more and look more interesting. Battery-operated string lights are great because you can hide all the wires and only have the little twinkle lights show through the sign-in various spots. Check out this Valentine’s Day sign from everydayjenny as an example. It’s really nice and not difficult to make at all plus you can personalize it with your own message if you want to.

Going back to the idea that pallet signs are really great for entryways, we’re going to have a look at this welcome sign which was featured on frugallyfantastic. It’s very simple and made from a single piece of wood but if you’re using reclaimed pallet boards you can combine two or three to make something similar. The letters are nicely spaced out and well proportioned overall and they add a 3D effect to the sign without standing out too much. You could add some color to them if you want to.
