DIY Concrete Plant Stand Shaped Like A Hand
Tackle your first concrete craft with this easy-to-make hand-shaped sculpture. You can place a bowl on it and use it as a bedside jewelry holder, display it on a shelf as decor, or use it to hold a small potted plant.
Materials needed for this hand-shaped planter:
- concrete mix
- water
- 2 plastic bowls
- plastic spoon
- rubber or latex gloves
- rubber band
- big glass jar with a wide mouth
- sandpaper
How to craft the plant stand:
Step 1: Place the glove inside the jar and fold the cuff over
Take your latex glove and insert it into the jar, then fold the cuff over the mouth of the jar so it’s secure. The glove will serve as a mold for the concrete.
Step 2: Mix the concrete with water
Place your concrete powder in a bowl, pour some water over it, and mix with a spoon. Use disposable materials, as the concrete mix will ruin whatever you use.
Mix the powder and water until the mixture is nice and smooth, like a paste.
Step 3: Pour the concrete mixture into the glove
Use a spoon to add some of the concrete mixture to the glove. Then pour the rest into the glove until full.
Step 4: Close the glove shut with a rubber band
When you’re done pouring the concrete into the glove, take it out of the jar and close the top with a rubber band.
Step 5: Give it the desired shape
Position your concrete-filled glove in its desired shape. We used a bowl to prop up the fingers and flatten the palm.
Step 6: Peel off the glove
Refer to the concrete package for drying times. Once the concrete has hardened, peel off the glove. You might need to use scissors for this part. Take your time removing all pieces of the glove.
Step 7: Add the finishing touches, step back and admire your creation
Take a look at your concrete hand sculpture and add any finishing touches to it. You can use some light sandpaper to remove imperfections or to soften some of the lines. You can also add color with acrylic paint if desired.
If you’re happy with the look of your hand sculpture, go ahead and put it to use.
