One of the first things that need to be decided when planning the design and decor of a living room is the color palette. Using bold colors can be super fun but it’s important to make sure that the colors don’t clash and that they complement each other harmoniously. There are tons of colors to choose from and a lot of them are either very common or very boring. Something a bit more unconventional could potentially make all the difference. This for example is a feng shui living room with a quirky design created by Snøhetta.

For example, if the goal is to create a welcoming and cozy living room you can make use of warm colors such as brown and gold combined with wood. Natural wood is known for adding warmth to spaces and being super versatile. Check out this method being applied in a living room designed by Colombe.

A rather interesting strategy is to fill the living room with color and pattern. Of course, it shouldn’t be done in a chaotic manner. The different colors and patterns need to complement each other so that the room doesn’t become too busy. That’s tricky to do seeing how easy it is to go overboard. There’s one design that we can offer as an example in this case, a living room created by Lucinda Loya.

Using different nuances of the same color or similar tones can look quite nice in a living room. Take for instance this space designed by Elisa Ossino Studio. The most eye-catching detail is the bright red fireplace surround followed by the sofa. To tone down the crazy hue, a comfy accent chair with light grey upholstery and a curved back was placed alongside it and looks amazing on the patterned floor.
