New Zealand Residence Infused With Subtle Asian Influences
This exquisite residence is located in Auckland, New Zealand. It was a project by Daniel Marshall Architects and was completed in 2010. The clients returned to New Zealand after spending a long period of time in Asia so it was natural for them to want to bring some Asian influences into the design of their new home.
As a result, the residence is eclectic and stands out in a variety of ways. First of all, the location is really beautiful. It has views of the Hauraki Gulf and the Waiheke Island’s pastoral landscape. Two courtyards shelter the house from the harsh winds while also functioning as connectors between the interior spaces and the views.
The architects used cedar and plywood to highlight the interior design but also to create contrasts and to give the house a welcoming appearance. There’s a very strong connection between the interior and exterior in this case.
The large windows, the large deck, transitional spaces, skylights and the views all contribute to a very strong connection between the interior and the exterior spaces and this connection results in a fresh ambiance and a natural integration into the surroundings.
