Contemporary black residence in Japan

Usually, residences have light-colored facades. This allows them to reflect some of the sunlight and to avoid transferring the heat inside. As a result, black houses are quite rare. However, nowadays everything that’s different and that stands out is seen as particularly interesting and a way of not blending in, as finding an identity. It could be one of the reasons why the designers of tis residence chose black as the main color for the exterior.

The house is located in Hodogaya Ward, Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. It was a project developed by THREE.BALL.CASCADE. and it was built in 2012. The residence covers an area of 117.59 square meters and has a very interesting design. The site on which it is located is in a residential area populated by traditional, low-rise houses. This makes this building stand out even more. The residence has a compact but quite curious shape. It’s a two-level structure that has absolutely no windows on the street façade. This makes it seem mysterious and it’s also a way of ensuring privacy for its inhabitants.
