Contemporary Apartment Block In London With Bow Windows and Brick Facades
The Birdcage Conservation Area which is situated close to Buckingham Palace in London is a beautiful area with lots of traditional row houses and Victorian mansions that give it an old but well kept and historic vibe. It’s here that a new residential block was erected in 2017. It was a project developed by studio Name Architecture and it has a very interesting aesthetic. On one hand this is a very sculptural and contemporary-looking structure but on the other hand, it was designed in relation to its context and manages to blend in surprisingly well. The building is comprised of 28 apartments and three townhouses which gives it a nice degree of diversity and allows it to play with different heights, shapes and differentiation.
The apartment building has a bold aesthetic, featuring all sorts of concave and convex surfaces that complement each other and help to shape the building in a way that’s intriguing without making it stand out too much. As a general rule, the idea behind this design was to create a contemporary interpretation of typical traditional English architecture and to take inspiration from all the neighboring structures but also to make this unit unique and different from the rest. There’s also a sustainable side to this project. This residential block has living roofs and solar panels for added energy-efficiency.
