Concrete House With A Zen Garden And Running Water Feature
This beautiful house is located in Tipupati, India, with the Tirumala Hills extending to the South-West of the site. It’s part of a residential area and can be found just off the main road. The owners had big plans for the 15.000 square foot plot. They wanted a house that could also incorporate an office area with space for meetings and a series of outdoor zones around it including a court, a zen garden and a flowing water feature.
All these elements became reality thanks to studio Architecture Paradigm. The entire project was completed in 2017. The house has a small footprint compared to the overall proportions of the site. It’s made of two large blocks which act as separate zones. One contains the public areas and the kitchen and the other houses the bedrooms and bathrooms. The blocks are connected by a large dining area.
The lower sections of the house are clad in limestone which helps to ground the building and to connect it to its surroundings. In contrast, the cantilevered volume is made of concrete. This gives the house a modern-industrial appearance. Also, the exterior of the home theater volume is clad in wood and that has an impact on how the house as a whole is perceived, adding a warm touch to its design. This contrast between the materials, finishes and colors employed throughout the project ultimately helps to make the house stand out and give it lots of character. The interior is just as intriguing and special. There’s a seamless and very pleasant connection between the spaces. At the same time, subtle changes in floor planes sets the spaces apart.
