Anyone can add color to a kitchen using floor tiles, light fixtures or the usual small accessories. However, few dare to venture into the realm of colored appliances and to use their fridge, oven or hood as a source of color for the room.
A colored refrigerator makes a brave statement, letting the world know that you’re not afraid to stand out from the rest and that you enjoy being unique.
A kitchen needs to blend practicality and style but at the same time it should reflect the personality and character of the person who designed and of those using it. This may come as a surprise but you can find appliances in pretty much every color of the rainbow which is interesting because most of the times all we see is white, gray, stainless steel and the occasional black.
The color you choose for your kitchen appliances says a lot about what you’re trying to accomplish but also about your priorities. Every color is special. For example, a yellow fridge can brighten up the whole modern kitchen, having a cheerful and uplifting effect without overwhelming the space. Green is also a very fresh and vibrant color and some hues are associated with retro decors. Red is always bold and powerful black can be dramatic but also elegant.
Some appliances even feature patterned designs, incorporating several colors in their designs. They depict unique scenes or inspiring images and in some cases they’re abstract, a detail that makes them quite versatile despite the unusual choice of chromatic palette. When working with colored appliances, you can either let them be the focal point of attention for the kitchen in which case the rest of the decor should be neutral and as simple as possible, or you can match them to other elements in the room such as the floor tiles, the backsplash or the window treatments.
When choosing the color of your kitchen appliances it’s better to not overthink it. If you’re not that set on a particular color and yet you want something elegant and eye-catching, a black fridge could do the trick. You can also choose the color of your appliances based on the style or theme featured in the room. A retro or vintage decor asks for shades of mint green, some blue hues and muted colors in general.
A lot of manufacturers are now offering their products in a wide range of colors. For example, BlueStar appliances can be customized by the clients who can choose from more than 750 colors and textured finishes. The possibility of selecting something that’s uniquely designed to suit one’s style is getting more real by the day.
A refrigerator can be a work of art and no collection says it better than the FAB28 created by Dolce&Gabbana and Smeg. The partnership resulted in a series of 100 exclusive refrigerators with unique styling. Each features images of Sicilian artists and is embellished with classic floral motifs. The meticulous designs turn each of the 100 refrigerators into a one-of-a-kind product.
Smeg introduces a retro style aesthetic with a series of appliances with designs inspired by the 1950s. The designs are defined by smooth lines, curvaceous silhouettes and a specially selected array of colors that reflect the retro influences.
One of the most interesting pieces is the SMEG500 refrigerator. It’s made with original Fiat body parts and it comes in five special colors: white, red, green, blue and yellow.
