How To Make A Giant Countdown Wood Christmas Sign
Christmas is a favorite holiday for many! Children and adults often find themselves counting down till the end of December. To make it easier to keep track of the Christmas countdown, I made a cheerful Santa inspired giant sign to countdown till the holidays. This fun piece of decor is very easy to make!
Materials you’ll need for this Christmas wood Sign
- Extra Large Unfinished Wood Tag
- Red Paint
- Black Chalkboard Vinyl
- Silver Vinyl or paper
- White stickers
Step by step guide to craft a Christmas wood sign:
Step one: painting process
Paint the entire large unfinished wood tag a festive red color. I used “Shaker Red” milk paint from Folk Art by Plaid Crafts. Let the first application of paint dry, then add the next layer of paint. Let it dry completely.
Step two: Vinyl
Cut a strip of chalkboard vinyl to fit the width of the wood tag. Peel the backing off the vinyl and smooth the chalkboard vinyl onto the tag.
Step three: black bottom
Cut black buttons from the chalkboard vinyl. I used a die cutting machine, but you could also trace circles and cut them out. Attach the “buttons” to the tag.
Step four: Adhesive
Cut a square silver “buckle” for the belt. Again, I used a die cutting machine and square dies to cut silver adhesive backed paper, but you could easily trace squares and cut them out with scissors.
Step five: Stencil
Spell out “days until Christmas” with white stickers. I used my Silhouette cutting machine to cut flocked vinyl, but you can find similar stickers at the craft store to spell out the message.
Once the tag is complete, hang it on your wall. Use chalk to fill in the square inside Santa’s faux belt buckle. This cute Christmas countdown takes up very little space, and it’s a fun way to brighten your wall for the holidays. Have fun crafting and creating for Christmas!
