Where To Find The Best Candle Making Kit

A candle making kit can make the perfect gift. A gift to someone special or one to yourself. Your sense of smell is linked with memory more than any other sense that you have. If you make your own candles, you can tie them to memories.

So of course, our sense of smell is powerful and meaningful. That’s why candles are so valuable. With one candle, you can link a memory or change the aromatic aesthetics of a room. But did you know anyone can make their own candles?

You don’t have to churn your own butter or own a farmhouse to make your own candles either. Making candles is trendy and can be done by anyone, anywhere. All you need is a candle making kit.

What Is A Candle Making Kit?

A candle making kit is a kit that comes with everything that you need to start making candles. You use the wax provided and either the holder provided or you use your own. But all you need is the wax and the wick.

Making them can be therapeutic, whether you add your own oils/scents or use the ones in the kit. The best part is that everyone uses candles so you can make as many as you want and give them away as gifts.

What Makes A Good Candle Making Kit?

In order to find out what makes a good candle making kit, you need to know what comes in a candle making kit. Not all candle making kits have the same components, but they usually include these items.

Wax

Wax is the most important part of a candle making kit. All candles are made of some type of wax. Now there are different types of wax you can use. Beeswax is a natural wax that is much-loved but isn’t often found in kits.

What is more common is paraffin wax or soy wax. Soy wax is a nice natural alternative to beeswax that is much cheaper and can be dyed more easily because it starts out white. Beeswax is yellow in color.

Containers

Most candle making kits come with at least a couple of containers. The container is generally themed or very basic. That way, you can customize them on your own. You can also use your own custom containers.

Stainless steel can be used for some candles and so can glass. Ceramic can also be a good choice. Just make sure you read the instructions that came with the kit as there may be specifications for the wax.

Label

Labels are placed on the container to give the candle a name or let the new owners know what scent the candle is. Simple white industrial labels or price tag labels won’t usually do. Because you want it to improve the candle.

Finding labels that fit a theme or that look vintage is ideal. You can find very affordable labels that come in 100-count or more. Or you can splurge and get slightly pricier ones that usually come with 50 or less in a box.

Scent

The scent is important! Unscented candles are a thing but they aren’t nearly as popular as scented candles and with good reason. There are a few different ways to scent candles but the most popular way is with oils.

Essential oils work so well and it takes so little oil to make a huge impact. You can also mix scents without causing any type of reaction. Since the oil is going into the melted wax, the two mix very well.

Color

Most of the time, candle making kits come with colored wax. But if the wax is white that just means that you need to color the wax on your own. Making custom colors can be super fun when making candles.

The best option for coloring candles is to use candle dyes or wax dyes. These come in both liquid and powder forms. If you are in a pinch, a crayon or two can help tint your candle while keeping it wonderfully smooth.

Tools

As far as tools go, what is included in candle making kits varies. A few common tools include stirring sticks, a heating pot, a temperature gauge, and wick stickers. But these are just a few of the many tools that are included.

Most people who make their own candles have the tools they need at home already. But if you are buying a candle making gift for someone new, make sure that you don’t need to add any extra tools to the kit.

How To Make Candles

One of the best ways to get the best candle you’ve ever had is to make your own candles! It really is much easier than you might think. However, it should only be done by an adult as you will be dealing with hot wax.

The steps are fairly simple and making candles can be done in one afternoon. If you don’t count the time the candle spends cooling off, it can take less than an hour! So yes, there could be a great profit here.

Step 1: Add Candle Wicks

The first thing you want to do is add candle wicks to the bottom of your chosen container. Using hot glue, stick them to the bottom and let them dry while you continue on with the next step in the process.

Step 2: Melt Your Wax

Pour your wax flakes into a candle making pitcher then place your candle making pitcher into a deep pot of boiling water. Stir them occasionally to keep the flakes or pieces of wax from sticking together.

Step 3: Scent And Color

Once your wax is melted, make sure that the flashpoint of your candle scent is appropriate to the temperature of the wax. If the wax is too hot then the scent won’t stick and will evaporate instead, leaving your candle wanting.

This is also a good time to add your coloring. Usually, it will be a liquid dye but sometimes it is another powder. If you are lucky, your wax was already colored and you can skip the coloring and dyeing step.

Step 4: Pour The Wax

Pour the wax into your containers that have the wick in them. Make sure you don’t pour them onto the wick and instead aim for the bottom of the container. Pour slowly. Then let it rest for a few hours.

Generally, it takes about six hours or so for the wax to hold up and cool. But letting it sit overnight is better. After it does, then clip the wicks to make the candles look good and make sure the candles look tidy!
