Cliffside Chalet Softens The Rugged Landscape With A Chic Aura
Surrounded by mesmerizing panoramic views on all sides, the Lakecrest Residence rests on a rocky cliffside lot in Whistler, Canada. The chalet was designed by a|k|a Architecture + Design and covers an area of 5000 square feet.
With facades covered in wood and stone, the chalet integrates into the landscape naturally. The beautiful array of materials is complemented by large glass walls and windows that connect the indoor spaces to the exterior, the views and the surroundings.
Given the amazing location, the architects wanted to encourage the users to spend as much time as possible outdoors, enjoying the nature and all its might. It’s why the residence feature a gorgeous private garden, an outdoor dining area, an outdoor jacuzzi and a barbeque area.
The organic palette of materials used for the facade continues indoors where the ceiling features exposed wooden beams, wooden flooring and the occasional stone wall.
The social area includes the kitchen, the dining area and the family room and they’re interconnected, organized around a circulation spine that leads onto the great room. Floor-to-ceiling glass walls open the family room towards the views on all sides.
The corner is the ideal spot for admiring the surroundings.
The residence has numerous fireplaces that warm up the atmosphere and make all the rooms feel cozy and welcoming, despite their simplicity. The one in the living room is positioned a the center of the wall, flanked by two wooden units. The TV is mounted on the wall above the fireplace.
Three nesting acrylic tables fill the void between the two matching sofas. They offer flexibility and maintain the décor simple and transparent. The modern nature of the chalet is revealed in the form of oversized, abstract wall art. It’s a way of adding a touch of color to the earthy palette and creating a strong focal point.
The kitchen is spacious and features a large island at the center that also functions as a bar. A stone accent wall is the perfect backdrop for the stainless steel amenities. The island stands out with its clean design but also thanks to the colorful pendants hanging from the ceiling.
There’s a complete lack of wall-mounted cabinetry here. Instead, an array of large windows was added so the light can get in and the gorgeous views can be admired. The lower cabinetry provides plenty of storage.
The dining space is directly linked to the kitchen. The live-edge dining table is the main attraction here. It’s placed on a neutral-colored area rug that delimitates this area from the rest of the open plan. The black chairs have a classic look and match the kitchen barstools.
A fireplace sets the perfect mood. It’s surrounded by a portion of stone wall that matches the other accent walls throughout the chalet.
The bedrooms are located in a separate wing with views onto a private and quiet courtyard. They have large windows with wooden frames, modern fireplaces and color palettes based on natural shades but also on contrasts.
The interior designs of the bedrooms are minimalist, only including the basic elements. However, none of them lacks comfort and they’re all inviting.
The chalet also has a home theater with warm-colored walls, beige carpeting on the floor and incredibly comfortable seating.
The bathrooms are part of the same private wing as the bedrooms. The master bath is really spacious, with two rows of storage drawers along one of the walls, a huge mirror above them and a freestanding tub in the corner. Opaque glass walls contain the shower area.
The other bathroom areas are more compact but equally chic and simplistic. Large wall mirrors allow the room to feel even more spacious.
