Eclectic Mountain Cabin In Montana Looks Over A Gorgeous Creek
Deer Lodge is a beautiful spot in Powell County, Montana and this is where architecture studio Cushing Terrell got to work on a gorgeous project, a mountain cabin that gets to frame views of Rock Creek and the rest of the magnificent landscape that surrounds it.
The cabin occupies a piece of land set between the creek and the public access road, a fairly narrow area which made the construction and design process challenging. Obviously, the scenic views had to be an important part of the project so the architects made sure to prioritize them. They gave the cabin a completely transparent back which creates a strong connection with the landscape. Also, a section of the building is cantilevered 8 feet over the edge of the ridge. The study features this amazing glass viewing box from where the best and impressive views can be admired.
The architects also respected their clients’ wish for a cabin that’s infused with rustic character but that ultimately feels modern. As such, they came up with a fairly eclectic design which balances out elements of these two styles. They closed off the main facade which is facing the road and kept it opaque, with solid walls and small openings. That allowed the rustic style to prevail in this section of the building.
The design is predominantly modern towards the back where a very open and airy design approach was taken. That way the indoor and outdoor became closely fused together and a seamless transition was created between them.
