Bold Contrasts Break The Monochrome Décor Of A Chic Apartment

Designed to accommodate a spacious living room with an open kitchen, a gorgeous bedroom with en-suite bathroom plus two guest bedrooms and another two bathrooms, this chic apartment can be found in Istanbul and was designed by Tanju Ozelgin Studio. The Kempinsky Bellevue Residence has a total floor area of 210 square meters. It looks and feels spacious but, at the same time, the interior design allows the spaces to feel welcoming and even cozy.

The main elements that give the apartment its character are contrasting in nature but they were so beautifully integrated that the transition from one material to another or from one space to another are close to inexistent. This ensures a harmonious design overall.

On the right hand side of the entrance, a transparent glass bookshelf majestically rises from floor to ceiling. It’s a space divider with the role to visually separate the entrance hall and the main living area but also a decorative elements that makes a stylish statement.

Old books are displayed on each of the glass shelves and their original covers contrast with the minimalist environment where they are displayed. This is just an example of how contrasts help define the apartment and offer it a unique character.

Moving onto the living area, here you’ll find a casual but nevertheless elegant décor. A dark area rug defines the sitting area and four black armchairs and two matching coffee tables form two symmetrical zones. By employing dark colors to delimit this area, the designers managed to offer it an intimate ambiance even though it’s an open space connected to the rest of the open floor plan.

The other portion of the room is occupied by the open kitchen and the dining space. They feature a light color scheme that differentiates them both as a separate zone. The warm tone of the wooden floor is the element that connects all the components of the open floor plan.

A sofa serves as a space divider between the two functions. Featuring a light, neutral color but being placed in between the two contrasting zones, the sofa becomes an intermediate element. It borrows features from both spaces.

The kitchen is practically all white. Built-in appliances and perfectly lined wall units maintain an extremely simple and airy look. The kitchen island also serves as a bar and sits at the limit between the kitchen and the rest of the space. Because the floor is covered with a different material and has a different color, this zone feels more secluded and less like a part of the overall décor.

The bedroom marries all of the main décor elements mentioned above. It also shows the distinctions and the contrasts that define the main living space. While the room is mostly bright and luminous, one of the walls has a look similar to the accent wall used to make the sitting area feel intimate. The same type of sharp and minimalist accent lighting was also used here. The cold blue/purple accents and balanced out by the warmth of the fireplace.

The bedroom has a walk-in closet visible beyond the frosted glass wall. The designers played with textures, shades and materials to give the room an exciting but at the same time simple look.

The en-suite bathroom is connected to the bedroom via a transparent glass wall. While this may raise a few questions related to privacy, it’s also an element that makes both areas feel a lot more spacious.

Relatively small, the bathroom is defined by light vs dark color contrasts. Shades of gray give it a masculine vibe while the rounded edges of the amenities bring in a more delicate approach. Mirrors are cleverly used to maximize the space and create interesting visual effects.
