A Beautiful Creek House With An Architecturally Timeless Design
Guided by their clients’ desire to have a holiday home where they could spend time together as a family, Strom Architects came up with a perfect design inspired by the unique surroundings. This is the same studio responsible for another gorgeous retreat called The Quest. In this particular case, the challenge was to give the house an architecturally timeless look.
They had to work with a rather interesting site in Isle of Wring on the coast of England. Because this is a creek prone to flooding, they built the house on the highest point of the site and elevated it so the water can pass underneath. This also minimized the overall impact that the house has on the landscape.
The design was kept intentionally simple and low-profile in order to obstruct the views as little as possible. The house is thus a single-storey rectangular volume with a simple and practical layout. The common areas like the living room, dining space and the kitchen are connected into a large open space with easy access outdoors. On one side of it there’s a set of three bedrooms for the children while the master bedroom is on the opposite side. This way the parents and the children can enjoy their privacy. The exterior of the house is clad in blackened larch wood which helps it achieve the simple and timeless look that the owners always wanted.
