A breezy beach house is something we all dream of having, especially on a hot summer day. Not having one isn’t the end of the world. And if you can’t shake the desire there are ways in which you can bring the ocean to you. Here are 10 tips which can help you transform your home into a tropical beach oasis.
Few things are more suggestive than seashells. So if you want the feeling that you’re in a beach house, display shells on your shelves. A good place for these decorations can be the hallway or, in this case, the wall separating the kitchen from the open floor plan.
Decorate the living room with seashells to balance out the dark finishes and colors. You can even use them to create contrasts if you have a fireplace for example.
Turn seashells into artwork. Frame them and display them on your bedroom wall. They’d look great on a white wall with some accent lighting.
Sailboats are also very expressive so, if you enjoy collecting them or building models then why not display them too? Decorate your living room, hallway or bedroom.
Blue and white accents.
Don’t forget colors. White is not exactly a very expressive color but, in combination with blue it will give your home that breezy look usually specific to breach houses. Complement a white room with blue lampshades or decorative pillows.
A light shade of blue used as accent color will make a room feel bright and airy. There are lots of ways to introduce color into a room: curtains, decorations, artwork or furniture.
Create a coastal décor for your family room with jute carpets. They have a very specific texture and color and you can also choose to complement them with matching furniture and accessories.
Paintings of boats.
Artwork has a big impact on the overall décor of a room. This oversized painting showcasing a boat takes over the whole décor and transforms the room, giving it a breezy, coastal look.
You can also create a gallery and display a multitude of paintings. Cover an entire wall or part of a wall to create a focal point for the room.
Images of the beach.
What better way to bring the beach ad the ocean to you than with an actual painting of these places? Decorate your living room or bedroom with them and throw in some other beach-related decorations.
Wrapped in rope.
If you want to have a beach-inspired décor then think of elements usually found in these houses, elements like rope. Wrap the chandelier in rope and add a rattan armchair to go with it.
Just look how gorgeous this rope handrail looks on this staircase. It’s a wonderful accent feature, one to consider not only for beach houses but for modern or even rustic décors in general.
If you have big, thick beams in your house one way of making them look beautiful is by wrapping them in rope. It’s a simple trick, especially useful if you like the coastal décor.
Palm trees inside the house.
If you have the possibility to bring nature inside then go for it. Plant a palm tree in the middle of your living room and the whole house will get a tropical look.
White walls and upholstery.
We’ve mentioned that white combined with blue gets you that coastal look you want. But white alone is a color you can use for similar purposes. For example, paint the walls and ceiling white and opt for furniture with white upholstery.
Install louvered doors for the terrace, deck or balcony and you’ll get that old beach cottage look. The doors can be opened fully to invite the outdoors in or shut to get protection from the elements.
