Discover Ideas for Redecorating at Upcoming BDNY

Sometimes the latest design innovations come from the hospitality industry and that’s exactly why Homedit loves attending Boutique Design New York (BDNY). Last year, we found it had all sorts of ideas for inspiring upgrades at home, so we are looking forward to seeing what BDNY 2017 will have to offer. While we wait for this mid-November show, here are some of the design highlights from the previous edition:

The high-end organic design of this chair has stylish lines and a comfortable upholstered seat. The wood-framed armchair is from Elements Contract Furniture. Ideal for a living room or conversation area, it’s easy to sit in without being overstuffed or overwhelming the space.

At the more casual end of the spectrum, the Lotus Chair is a classic design from what many consider the tail end of the mid-century design era. Created by Miller Yee Fong circa 1968, it is considered significant because it melds modern form and “rustic materials.” This became hallmark of the 1960’s California lifestyle and is on permanent loan from the Fong Brothers to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

We were very taken by the Mekar Pendant lamp presented by Brooklyn-based From the source. Made from zippers, it is said to manifest “broken-symmetry.”  For us, it’s the swirly cloud-like shape and soft glow that make it so wonderful.

Equal parts wall decor and ambient light fixture, these glowing disks from Modern Forms Lighting are a little bit of glitz for a dark area. Great as a trio, the Blaze wall sconces are also a good choice for decorative wall sconces wherever you want an accent, be it in a bedroom, hallway or living room.

Lovers of monochrome color palettes will adore these wall textures from Novo Arts as an easy way to add drama to a living space. Adding texture to a wall can be an important element for keeping a neutral space interesting, and these creative panels convert all sorts of odds and ends into textural wonders.

A great bar cart can add a dash of sophisticated style to a gathering — whether you use it for tea and coffee or cocktails. Wheel in this casual yet very refined cart from Pigeon & Poodle and your guests will feel extra special. There’s something retro and elegant about this often-overlooked piece accent furniture.

Faux greenery can be found at all ranges of the quality spectrum and these flowers and plants from LDF Silk are definitely high-end and highly realistic. Those of us who don’t have green thumbs can still enjoy spectacular, natural-looking arrangements with silk plants like these.

This Frequency chandelier from Studio M Lighting is a hefty statement light fixture that is meant to evoke the feeling of emanating waves — ripples from a stone hitting the water or sound waves. The avant-garde design features concentric rings covered in gold or silver leaf surrounding a central glass globe.

Frequency is also available as a wall sconce.

Sustainable materials are becoming ubiquitous in design as creative makers come up with more and more ways to produce environmentally friendly products. This material from ViaMotif was a draw because it has such a wonderful textural look and feeling. It is created in Indonesia by local populations from sustainable materials.

More than just visually attractive, it is very durable.

Creative re-purposing is yielding some amazing designs like these elegant pendants. It’s hard to believe they lived a former life as parts in a semi-trailer truck engine. We’re looking forward to seeing what wakaNINE has to show us at this year’s BDNY show.

We often marvel at some of the furnishings and decor in high-end hotels or chic popular restaurants and find great inspiration. BDNY is a great place for discovering designs that these commercial establishments use and that can serve great ideas for our own home decor upgrades. Stay tuned to Homedit later in November to see what we found at BDNY 2017!
