Barcelona Duplex With A Huge Terrace And Exquisite Decorations

Urban homes and apartments most of all have interior designs focused more on the interior and not so much on the exterior, the views or the relationship with the surroundings. That, however, is not always the case, as beautifully proven by this duplex home in Barcelona. The place was decorated by Abel Perez Gabucio of Abag Studio and its most notable feature is a huge terrace with a view of the city.

The terrace is a big part of this home’s structure and identity and all the social spaces are designed in relation with it. In many ways the terrace is an extension of the indoor lounge area and being out here feels like living on the roof of a building, exposed to nature and to the surroundings in a pleasant manner while enjoying a sense of security and privacy which only help to enhance the beauty of this space.

The owners wanted their home to most of all be practical and low-maintenance, suitable for family life and the designer offered them all that and more. By using warm materials, simple finishes and lots of carefully selected decorations the designer managed to give this place a look to match its big personality. Through a selection of carefully selected design details, he also managed to bring the outdoors in, turning the terrace into a source of inspiration for the decor of all the indoor areas.

The interior is organized on two floors. The day area occupies the top floor and the night zone is at the bottom. As mentioned before, the living area opens up onto the terrace and is organized into several functions including the seating area, the dining space and an unusual kitchen which lacks surfaces able to hold wall-mounted cabinetry and instead features an island with a built-in cooktop. A glass and metal divider separates the cooking area from the rest of the open plan.

The terrace is, as mentioned, very large. It’s big enough to incorporate an outdoor kitchen used extensively during the summer. On the other side there’s a comfortable lounge space with concrete benches topped with mattresses and cushions and with wooden storage boxes under them. Potted plants are a big part of the terrace’s decor and they also help to camouflage a shower in one of the corners.

The private areas are defined by simplicity and a great selection of layered textiles and complementary colors which help to create a soothing environment without allowing the decor to become austere. In fact, identity of each space is clustered into an array of decorative objects and accent features which means reinventing the decor and the ambiance of a room is easy.
