Attic Loft Reconstruction Full Of Surprises – an OOOOX project

When the OOOOX architects assessed the state of this attic apartment back in 2012, at first it seemed like a simple redesign project with only minor changes that needed to be executed. But, as the project progressed, numerous other issues became visible, such as the crooked floors or leaking windows.

In 2013 the apartment reconstruction was complete. One of the most important modifications were those related to the layout. The architects increased the functionality of the apartment though a number of changes. The design changed as well. In terms of colors, the team chose a palette based on white and combined bleached wood for the floors, warm grey for the walls, antharacite for the bathroom and raw steel accents throughout.

The entrance hall is relatively spacious. It features a built-in shoe rack, a simple mirror and a small seating area. On the other side the main attraction is the photo wallpaper immortalizing the client’s horse, partially covered by the coat rack.

The living space and the kitchen share the same open space. The kitchen was expanded, almost reaching the large French doors that lead onto the terrace. A stainless steel island was added and it now replaces the dining table. The island is complemented by a set of Lem bar stools with mat chromed steel frames and stainless steel bases. A small dishwasher, a small oven and a minimalist Tube wall-mounted cooker hood were squeezed into the limited kitchen space. Open shelves offer extra storage.

The seating area has a corner sofa and a small slanted window in the gable wall. A comfy Slumber pouf offers extra seating and gives this area a cozy and comfortable look throughout. The combination of white and grey is simple and neutral but not unattractive.

The bedroom now has a narrow wardrobe, a feature which was added during the reconstruction. A large custom bed appears to be floating and the slanted ceiling allows the whole room to feel welcoming and intimate.

A set of extendible wall-mounted task lamps add an industrial touch to the sleeping area and increase the overall functionality of the space. The original staircase was removed and a new one was added. This one features steel steps and a handrail divided into two parts.

Under the staircase a reading corner was created. It has concealed shelves and is a comfy little space designed by increase the room’s inviting appeal. The Press pendant lamps hanging above the staircase also offer task lighting for the reading corner.

The apartment also has another space which could serve as a guest room or home office. In here, the team designed a custom desk and placed a small, casual sofa under one of the slanted windows. They added two compact coffee tables and another cozy Slumber pouf but this time in black.

The bathroom has dark, anthracite walls and a cohesive color palette overall. A wall-mounted mirror adds depth to the toilet nook and the subtle lighting reveals the unique texture on the walls.

The bathroom was actually expanded. It has a sliding door and a niche with a countertop and a washbasin. There’s storage space underneath for the towels. An adjacent shower enclosure opens the bathroom onto the bedroom.
