Atlanta Family Home Features A Fresh, Uncluttered Design
A simple, uncluttered layout and an interior design to match it – that’s what most of us wish for when building a new house or when remodeling an old one. There are all sorts of ways in which that can be achieved. One particularly interesting strategy is the one employed by DIG Architects and photographed by Alexander Herring, the studio which designed the Split Box House in Atlanta, Georgia.
The volumes were envisioned as boxes and the width was chosen based on how big the usual wood truss is and this completely eliminated the need for any interior support walls resulting in a very open, simple and uncomplicated floor plan.
Apart from this wonderfully open and airy interior design, this family home also enjoys a strong bond with the nature surrounding it, emphasizing the lush backyard decor and welcoming the outdoors in through large windows and open, transitional spaces. The backyard lights create subtle focal points and highlight some of the trees in a gorgeous way. Further more, the flat green roofs strengthen the bond between the house and nature even more. A series of skylights perforate the roofs allowing sunlight to enter the interior spaces and also ensuring passive cooling during the warm months.
