Charming Apartments Complex Surrounded by Forests And Wilderness
The Szuflandia apartment complex is situated in Wisła, Poland, on the slope of Mount Kiczera to be more exact. The relatively remote location gives the wonderful advantage of beautiful views, fresh air and tranquility. Of course, that’s not the only interesting thing about it. This project is the result of a collaboration between studios Brandis Design and Modern House. It was completed in 2016. The building is surrounded by beautiful forests and mountains on three sides and the architects made sure to take advantage of the amazing panoramas. They managed to do that by steering away from the typical apartment building structure and choosing a more sculptural and geometric approach instead.
The choice of materials is also very interesting and unusual. The team chose wood as the primary material for pretty much everything, both inside and out. There’s also a general emphasis on natural materials, the goal being to create a feeling of immersion in nature. The apartments resemble large wooden boxes and enjoy different orientations. Each has large windows which exposes the interior to the scenery and lets lots of natural sunlight in. The majority of the units also have access to large open terraces. All the different cantilevered volumes give the building a very dynamic and unique look. Furthermore, there’s a very beautiful transition between the stone used for the pathway and stairs and the wooden exterior walls of the apartments.
