Contemporary Apartment Uses Light As An Interior Design Element

Natural light is always important when designing a house or an apartment but not always in the same manner. We’re mentioning this because light is the main concept which the designers focused on when working on the interior layout and decor of this apartment from Taipei, Taiwan. It was a project developed by LCGA Design and completed in 2017. The apartment has a total interior space of 75 square meters which are organized in an interesting way.

Light is important in this case in the sense that it fills the main living areas and gives them a bright and open appearance but also in the sense that it can be filtered and regulated using folding walls and dividers in order to change the layout of the space and to provide different levels of privacy. It’s also important to mention here that the social areas are in fact multi-functional spaces.

The kitchen, dining area and living room share an open floor plan with the possibility to divide the zone into two sections using folding panels. In this context, the living room is able to become a guest room. In addition, the dining area can serve as a work space whenever required. the table is simple enough to be used as a desk and the chairs are suited for either function. The kitchen island can potentially serve as a bar when entertaining.

The bar extends to the bedroom, featuring a section closed off with a divider that has suspended light boxes and open shelves. The divider allows a certain amount of natural light to enter the bedroom so its role is more complex than originally suggested by the design. Also, when the folding panels become a divider between the living room and the rest of the apartment, there are thin vertical slits in them which let light through. As a general impression, we like the flexible layout and the simplicity of the materials and the colors and textures used throughout. They give the apartment a chic yet unpretentious look.
