Freshly Remodeled Apartment Gets Rid Of Walls To Make Better Use Of The Floorspace
The owners of a 90 square meter apartment from Sao Paulo, Brazil were quite unhappy with the current layout and overall structure of their home and rightfully so. The place had two bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen and a bathroom and they were separated and tiny which made them uncomfortable and limited the type of activities that could take place in them. After doing their fair share of research, the owners chose to work with studio INA Arquitetura and started planning a remodel.
The goal was to somehow create wider spaces and to thus offer room for receiving guests and doing various activities with them without being limited by the layout or the size of the common spaces. All had to be done within three months so planning and following a schedule was important.
One of the major changes that were made was to get rid of one of the bedrooms. Because there was a structural column between this bedroom and the living room these two spaces could not be adequately combined. As a result, an alternative solution was found, to link the two bedrooms together and to create a single large one. The kitchen was also enlarged. The one which separated it from the living room was removed and an open plan design was chosen. The tiled floor surface was extended and this created a more airy and versatile space in general.
Also, to make it look more like a modern kitchen, built-in appliances and a simple color palette were chosen. These big changes along with numerous smaller ones allowed these apartment owners to make better use of their home.
