1915 Apartment Gets A Mid-Century Modern Update

Judging by how this apartment looks now, it’s hard to believe it was built back in 1915. It now features a mid-century modern style which harmoniously incorporates a series of modern and classical elements. Notice the simple lines, elegant furniture and balanced color palette including neutral shades and vibrant tones that make the decor stand out.

Iconic furniture pieces can be seen throughout the space. The Noguchi Table is the center of attention in the living room and is complemented by the classical chair and chic side table.

I love how casual the décor is while also looking elegant. The painting rests against the wall instead of being mounted on it and the floor has a very nice finish and color.

The rooms are not particularly spacious but the lack of space led the architects to think outside the box.

The bedroom has an-suite bathroom and the wall dividing them was partly demolished. Now the two are connected and the room feels more spacious.

This type of design is often seen in kitchens which are connected this way to the living space. Here it was used in an unusual setting but for the same purposes.

Originally, this appears to have been a small, separate room. It is now connected to the open floor plan.

The open shelves are beautifully garnished with both decorative and practical items.

The main color used for the interior is white. It’s a strategic choice as it makes the room seem larger and more airy and spacious. Combined with the wooden floors, the atmosphere is fresh and cozy.

And where color just wasn’t enough, other tricks were used. The tiny bathroom has large mirrored cabinet doors which add depth to the space and the green touch is fabulous.

It’s interesting that plants were used to decorate the bathrooms. They’re a nice way of adding some color to the room, making it feel fresh and stylish, plus they’re great air purifiers.

What appears to have been a balcony of some sort is not a very beautiful and bright dining room. A very clever use of this space and a way of getting an extra room.

Love the vertical garden. The shelves fit perfectly on the wall and it’s great that they also serve as bookshelves for a little bit of contrast.

Maybe you’ve already noticed that open shelves are widely used here. They’re very useful if you need lots of storage space but don’t want to occupy the room with bulky furniture that would only make it seem smaller.
