An old garage turned into a lovely little house by Michelle de la Vega

It’s always fun to look at makeovers and to see how something unappealing turns into something beautiful and unexpected. The transformation needs to be spectacular in order to impress. We have an example that fits perfectly into this category.Originally, this was an old garage. It looks quite deplorable but, then again, nobody really expects a garage to be charming and stylish. But since the garage was no longer used for its primary function and it wasn’t even fit for storage, it basically begged for a makeover. Seattle based artist, designer and welder Michelle de la Vega decided to make this her new project.

Usually, old garages are turned into storage spaces for all the things we no longer need inside the house or into playrooms for the kids. But this artist had a much more ambitious idea. She wanted to completely transform the garage and to turn it into a tiny house. The shape of the structure helped a little and even served as inspiration for the project.

As you can image, the task wasn’t easy. There wasn’t much space to work with so every little inch had to be used wisely. With perseverance, creativity and time, the garage metamorphosed into a full-functioning little house. It has everything a simple house needs. Most of the fixtures and furniture pieces had to be custom built specifically for this project.

Some were salvaged and refurbished while others were repurposed. In the end, this tiny 250 square feet garage became a lovely mini-house. The space inside was used very cleverly and space-saving solutions were found. The space now seems bigger than it did when it as an empty garage which says a lot about the artist’s skills. What is also very interesting an beautiful is that there are no compromises in comfort and this is extremely important.
