There are lots of ways in which you can introduce color into a room. One of the simplest of all and one that has become very popular lately is to paint one wall or a portion of the wall using a bold and vibrant color. It’s a method that is particularly successful in spaces that are bright and where the background in usually white. This way the color you have chosen as an accent can stand out and showcase its entire beauty.
By painting only one portion of the wall you provide a smaller focal point and you basically force the eye to focus on that particular space. But in order to obtain a successful combination and effect, the other color that represents the background needs to create a strong contrast with the second shade. For example, almost any bold color looks good when combined with white. Some colors also look beautiful on a black background, although it’s risky to use such strong colors on the walls.
You can also use a neutral color as a background. It could be a shade of beige or brown and the accent color could be red, orange, green, ochre, yellow, blue etc. Another alternative would be to use more than one accent color in a room. For example, you can select a portion of a wall which you would paint one color and another portion from another wall to paint using a different color. The two accent colors must complement each other beautifully and they must also both look good in combination with the background color.
You must also be careful when choosing the portion of the wall that you want painted. It can be the space behind some shelves, the area behind some nicely displayed decorations, the portion of space behind the TV or any other space that you think should become a focal point.
