A stylish loft in Minnesota with both French and New York-style influences

When you envision your dream home you often take all the things you like and combine them. However, they don’t all follow the same style so it’s not always easy to obtain a harmonious mix. But when you finally do it, the satisfaction is even greater. It’s the case of this lovely loft from St. Paul’s Lowertown district in Minnesota. It belongs to a young professional who had a very clear idea for the interior design she wanted. So interior designer Abby Tallman had to find a way to make that virtual image become reality. The client wanted to combine two of her favorite styles. She wanted to have both the sophistication of New York apartments and the delicacy of Parisian boutiques.

Not so long ago, the area where the loft is now located used to be a major warehouse and distribution center. It has been then restored and transformed into a mix of commercial and residential spaces that now form the Lowertown neighborhood. This particular loft covers an area of 1,425 square feet and has an interior that is not exactly very well organized. This presented some challenges for the interior designer.

One of the most difficult parts of the project was to transform a narrow dining area into a multipurpose room. It had to be a stylish and glamorous space. The designer managed to solve the problem by using a mix of furniture pieces. The formal dining area was transformed into a casual space. Another challenge was to create loft-style windows. For that lightweight cotton drapery panels were used along with white fabric and they provide protection from the sun and privacy for the office. The decorations and small details were also very important in this case because they give each room character and help complete the hybrid image that the client desired.
