Even though it seems like a completely modern structure, the house has a design inspired by the 1960’s modern house. It sits on a sloped site in Pound Ridge. Even though the shape of the site was a challenge, the architects managed to make the best out of it. The clients had a few very specific requests. They wanted a formal entry, an addition with a master suite and a sustainable re-cladding of the current structure of the house. The once modern but old residence began to take shape little by little and it eventually turned into this imposing structure.

Both the interior and the exterior of the house were reconfigured. Inside, the public areas feature warm cedar finishes that reflect the outdoor environment. It has large windows that provide beautiful views of the surrounding landscape. The cladding was designed as a contrasting element. Darker tones were used for the original volumes of the house while lighter tones were used for the new additions and alterations. Overall, the project was challenging but also very rewarding. The new house looks modern but it also has some of its original charm.{found on archdaily and pics by Taylor Deupree}.
