A recently expanded California home

The owners of this beautiful house have always been proud of their home and enjoyed living in it. Recently, they realized they needed more space for spending time as a family. They then decided to expand their lovely home which was built by developer-builder Joe Eichler. Together they created a plan that would allow them to expand the house while also preserving its history and original design.

Located in Palo Alto, California, the house has 3 bedrooms and 2 baths and a total surface of 2,418 square feet. After the expansion, it also got a new wing. It wasn’t a dramatic change as the new wing was created by converting what used to be a concrete patio. This new addition now contains the family room and the kitchen, the spaces where everyone usually spends most of their day as a family. The new wing is a sort of intermediate between the indoor and outdoor areas.

The family room is connected to the kitchen and to a sort of informal dining area. It’s an open plan that follows the same main lines as the rest of the house in terms of interior design. It also has some unique characteristics that allow it to stand out. For example, the living room has a 10-foot high ceiling whereas the rest of the house has 8-foot high ceilings. Since the extension has a new kitchen, the old one was no longer necessary and was repurposed.
