A contemporary house in Chile with spectacular views

This house is located in Lago Ranco, Chile. It was designed and built in 2010 and it was a project by elton+léniz arquitectos asociados. The residence covers an area of 600 square meters and it’s located in a privileged area that is surrounded by amazing landscape and that had spectacular views. However, building it was not easy. Despite all the benefits of the site, there were inconveniences as well, mostly related to the natural landscape of the site.

Given the fact that the site had a large rock cliff on it as well as a series of native trees and that the client wanted to preserve those as such, the architects had to find a way to integrate these elements into their design for the house. The site and the views also dictated the orientation of the residence. In order to avoid any interventions on the cliff and the trees and to also allow the inhabitants to enjoy the views that the site offers, the house was designed with two volumes.

These volumes are connected by a bridge that goes around the rock and that also adapts to the position of the trees. In terms of materials, the architects used typical, local elements such as shingles and wood. The residence has an overall contemporary design but it also presents elements typical to southern architecture and rustic details.{found on archdaily and pics by Marcos Mendizabal}.
