Private Residence Maximizes Comfort Through Large Terraces
Casa MCO is a private residence located in Brasilia, Brazil. It offers a total of 400 square meters of living space and is built on a 700 square meter site. This was a project developed by architects Filipe Monte Serrat and Camilo de Lannoy of Esquadra|Yi, a flexible organization that supports collaborations and enjoys working with innovators, creative professionals and experts in different fields, depending on the project.
Completed in 2013, the residence impresses with its modern architecture and composition. The house stands on the edge on the site and this decision was made in order to respond to one of the clients’ requirements who didn’t want a small garden in the back but rather a vast green space which could be accessed from the parts of the house.
The placement of the house on the site also has to do with the sun exposure and the desire to make the best use of the space available. The residence opens to the south through a long covered terrace. There, a small lap pool and an open lounge area complete the décor.
A large metal pergola on one side of the house creates a semi-private lounge space, ideal for relaxing or spending time with guests. Above it, a terrace opens the upper level to the views and the surroundings.
The garage is partially built into the site, maximizing the living spaces on the ground and upper floors.
The interior is organized along a central circulation area which connects them all. The private spaces are situated on the upper level while the social areas are downstairs. The ground floor is spacious and open, featuring full height windows and sliding glass doors that connect it to a long terrace.
The kitchen is large and airy. It has a large island with a glass top extension that serves as a dining table or bar. Its color palette is neutral and diverse. The sunny Bertoia yellow of the chairs brightens up the space while the black storage unit and the warm wood ground it and make it feel inviting.
