91.05 sqm Contemporary Residence in Tokyo

This contemporary residence is located in Tokyo, Japan. It sits on a 91.05 sqm project area and it was designed by Studio Loop with the help of structural designers from Iwashita Structural Engineers. It’s a three storey residence that was designed for a family with a newborn baby.The narrow site was somewhere between several other 3-storey houses and there wasn’t much space for a new home. Even so, the architects working at the project managed to make it happen.

The owners requested some elements, these being a parking space, a powder room close to the master bedroom, two study rooms, a living room sharing a Japanese room, a pantry space for the kitchen, a roof terrace and lots of fresh air and light inside. These are all reasonable requests. However, it wasn’t that easy to make a design that would respect all of them.

Inside, all the spaces are vertically interconnected and overlapped and there are crevices in the walls and floors that generate transparent spaces. The floors are connected by a wood staircase. The exterior of the house is box-shaped and wrapped in white stucco walls. The entrance has an orange wall. The interior walls have been covered with white wallpaper that can always be colored or changed with something more dynamic and fun.{found on archdaily}
