An 18th Century House Refurbished Into A Wonderful Family Home

Old structures hold a lot of history and have a lot of unique charm and beauty. That makes it worth preserving such structures whenever possible because by transforming them we get to blend the old with the new and to take advantage of the wonderful character they have and that can’t be recreated in other ways. A wonderful example is a site from Porto, Portugal which has recently been the subject of a very inspiring project conducted by architect Ren Ito

This little of paradise was originally home to an old house built back in the 18th century as well as several annex buildings spread around it. These have been beautifully and expertly refurbished and transformed into what is now a stylish main residence and a guest house with a lovely annex. Along with that the team also rebuilt the entrance gate and created a gorgeous path with a grapevine trellis that leads to the main house and links it to the beautiful outdoor areas that surround it.

Inside the main residence, the ground floor is occupied by all the public spaces like the living room, dining area, kitchen as well as a home office. The upstairs area is dedicated to the private spaces, namely the bedrooms and the bathrooms. The living area is the most impressive of all, featuring these amazing wooden trusses that turn the ceiling into a focal point as well as a fireplace that makes it feel extra cozy.

The guest house is organized in a similar way. It has a ground floor area which houses the social spaces and an upstairs zone with an inviting bedroom and a private bathroom. That leaves the annex which serves as a sort of extension and includes features like the wine cellar, a changing room for the swimming pool and a storage room for all the garden tools and equipment. Together these elements combined make it a wonderful little piece of paradise.
