10 DIY Pendant Light Designs To Try This Weekend

Last Friday we showed you 10 easy DIY projects for the weekend and they were very inspiring. If you haven’t tried them yet there’s still time. This week we though we’d focus on something a little more specific. We gathered for you 10 lovely pendant light designs you can do yourself, a perfect project to occupy yourself with this weekend.

Enameled Colander.

Let’s start with this simple project. You’ll be using an enameled colander. Considering this, it would be an interesting pendant light for the kitchen but nothing is stopping you for using it in any of the other rooms. Making it is very simple. Drill a hole in the bottom for the wire, insert it and attach a light bulb socket inside.{found on micasarevista}.

Recycled Cardboard.

If you happen to have a cardboard box in the house from something you’ve recently bought, you can use for the next project. A cardboard sheet would also work just fine. Start by making two 6×6” squares with a circle in the middle. Then cut eight 1 ¾” x 9 ½” long strips and slip them onto all four corners and fill the sides with the remaining strips. Paint the pendant and add the light kit through the circle.{found on sugarandcloth}.

To make this pendant light design, first wrap wire around the top of the light kit and form a ring around it. Repeat, spray paint the wire and then attach the halo wires. It’s a very simple project and you can experiment with different colors.{found on abeautifulmess}.

Yarn Glue.

Here’s how you can make yarn pendant lamps: mix ¼ cup of water with ½ cup corn starch and a bottle of glue. Let the solution cover the yarn. Then start wrapping it around a balloon. Let it dry overnight, pop the balloon and attach a pendant lamp kit to the lantern by tying yarn around the top.{found on brit}.

This wooden chandelier is also quite easy to make. Take a hanging plant basket and spray paint it. Then take some popsicle sticks and cut them to the same length as the steel craft hoop you’ll be using. Glue them into an X. Glue it 3” above the metal hook of the basket. Start threading beads onto clear cord and make 25 strands. Tie one end of each strand onto the hoop and secure it with glue. Then grab a few strands and pull them up. Repeat with the rest and make sure they are evenly spaces.{found on brit}.

Here’s how you can make a pendant light using a glass and some cord. Drill a hole and run the cord through it. Wire the socket and test it. Pull the electrical cord to the top and wrap using colored thread. That’s about it.{found on patternoflife}.

If you want to make a pendant light with an industrial look, you can use a simple utensil crock. Remove the little round feet and cut a hole in the base for the light socket. Spray paint it, add the kit and hang it.{found on site}.

Geometric yarn.

Geometric designs are very popular in modern homes so let’s continue with an appropriate project. You’ll need wood sticks, yarn, gauge wire and tape. Start by taping together 4 pieces of wood at a time to make 2 squares. Attach a piece of the wood in each corner and this will be the frame. Start wrapping yarn around it. For this project you’ll need a wire basket. Cut off the handles and the bottom middle wire and spray paint the basket. Attach an outlet cover to the bottom inside of the basket and let the glue dry. Spray paint it all and connect it to the light fixture.{found on ashleyannphotography}.

For this last project, start by cutting the cord to the desired length. Remove the black part at one end and twist together the wires with the same color. Plug them into the holes, tighten the screws of the cover and then just hang the lamp on the ceiling and plug it in.{found on tamalikainenparketti}.
