You Light Up My Life…or, at least, my Living Room…

Lights by their very nature are visually attracting things. (Just ask moths by a bug-zapper light on a summer night. Wait, don’t ask them. That’s mean.) Inside or out, we as humans are inherently attracted to light. Knowing this, then, doesn’t it make you want your light fixtures to say something unique about you? Give viewers and guests a hint of who you are and what you’re about? These lighting fixtures in the following living spaces do just that:

Vaulted and loosely box-boarded ceilings in this airy living room naturally draw the eye upward. It makes sense, then, that the lighting within the room mirrors the airy and natural atmosphere. These lights remind me of twinkling stars and add a lovely textured element to an otherwise grand and somewhat formal space.

This authentic mid century modern room wouldn’t be complete without the iconic bubble lotus floor lamp. Although modern touches have been incorporated into the space, the furnishings stay true to mid century décor…any other lighting would not only look out of place here, but it also would have dampened the aesthetics of the entire space overall. (Something to remember if your décor lends itself to one particular style or time period.)

Part of the charm of this space comes from the acceptance (dare I say embracing?) of shapes. Triangles via shelving, circle via ottoman, squares and rectangles via seating furniture, and other curves and lines throughout. What better way to come full circle (pardon the pun) than to integrate stars as light fixtures? And, really, how fitting.

One day, I would love an Arco floor lamp like this one in my life. The graceful slender curve is both modern, (hello, chrome) and natural, as conveniently evidenced by the similar arc of the tabletop flowers. For being so slender and aesthetically simple, this lighting fixture packs a huge punch stylistically, which is interestingly similar to the color process (grey neutrals with small doses of pink).

The belle of this room is undeniably the breathtaking view from the windowed walls…emphasized by the striking curved sofa and other non-angled items of the room. Thus, any lighting that detracts from that sight would be doing the viewer a huge disservice, which is why canned ceiling lights and soft wall lights are a perfect choice for the lighting in this space. The effect of this indirect lighting scheme is ethereal, absolutely beautiful.
