Why Cellular Shades Suit Most Homes

Cellular shades are available from retailers in a wide variety of materials and colors that allow you to customize your windows in almost limitless ways. They suit nearly all home décor designs because they afford choices that can be based on opacity, energy efficiency and color. Most manufacturers will provide you with color swatches so you can get the right look for the existing design of a room.

Unlike regular blinds, cellular shades are often available to buy with a cordless control system, which makes them an idea choice for a child’s bedroom. If you want to provide blackout conditions, say for a bedroom, then a cellular shade with a sufficiently high opacity rating will do the job. Equally, if you have a room that is designed to be light and airy, but just needs some protection from the sun in high summer a cellular shade installation, with low light filtering, will be ideal.

Privacy.

Many manufacturers offer cellular shades that have some noise absorption properties, so they also ideally suited for a city apartment’s décor. Most cellular shades are constructed by having material sewn together at regularly short spaces which is then pleated. This, so called, honeycomb effect allows you to raise and lower them with ease.

One of the chief reasons homeowners enjoy the benefits of cellular shades is that they afford good levels of privacy. As such, they are very suited to a ground floor bathroom, any room that overlooks the street or neighbors.

If you want to maintain as much natural light as possible, whilst still providing some privacy, a cellular shade mounted over the lower two thirds of a window works very well. Two layered cellular shades are also available and these suit ground level bathrooms where you might want a little more seclusion. Even if your windows are not square, cellular shades can often be made to provide the degree of concealment you require.

Light Control.

Affording the right degree of light control is important in rooms with lots of windows and glazed doors. If your room can heat up in the long summer days and become uncomfortable, then cellular shades will be the answer. The correct choice of material will allow enough light to pass in, maintaining the room’s airy feel, but shutting out unwanted heat energy. As the light conditions change, so you can alter the height of the shades to suit. This is particularly warranted in rooms that house antiques or artwork that will suffer in UV light.

Vertical And Horizontal.

Most cellular shades are designed with a horizontal pleat so that they can be shifted up and down easily. However, vertically pleated ones are available, too. Indeed, a novel approach is to use the same material, both horizontally and vertically pleated, in the same room for different types of window.

Doors And Windows.

Glazed doors don’t often suit drapes being hung over them. It makes the awkward to head in and out of. If you are planning on installing a cellular shade over your glazed door, then it is a good idea to complete the look, by giving your windows the same treatment. External French doors allow plenty of heat to escape overnight and cellular shades will help prevent heat loss and improve energy efficiency.

Coordinating Colors.

The huge range of materials that cellular shades are made in means that finding the right color is not going to be a problem. Single tones tend to work best, because the pleated effect already offers more than one shade, depending on the exact way the light hits the window. Don’t feel the need to make an exact match with your walls. However, it is a good idea to use the same color of your cellular shades elsewhere in the room to create a coherent look.
